Our History
The Northfield Youth Choirs are 20 years old and going strong!
Founded by Cora Scholz and Judy Bond as the Northfield Children’s Chorus in 1986, the Northfield Youth Choirs began as a single choir, for middle schoolers, and have grown to eight choirs that serve more than 160 children from grade 1 through grade 12.
Cora Scholz was NYC’s artistic director for 16 seasons. Dione Peterson served as our artistic director from 2001-03 and Elizabeth Shepley became the organization’s third artistic director in the summer of 2005.
Highlights for the group include performing on A Prairie Home Companion radio show; performing “Come Make a Home,” a piece composed for the choirs by Dan and Christine Kallman, at the Northfield Sesquicentennial Governors Ball and the 2006 Opening Session of the Minnesota House of Representatives; and singing the National Anthem for a Twins game in the fall of ‘06 and ‘07.
