Con Brio to Perform for Women’s Ecumenical Event

Con Brio has been invited to sing for the annual gathering of the Northfield Ecumenical Women (NEW) and the Fellowship of the Least Coin, on Sat., May 3, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. The singers will meet to rehearse in the sanctuary at 8:45 a.m. and will be done by about 9:45 a.m. This comes on a busy NYC weekend. We are very careful not to schedule performances “just for performance sake” and we feel this is one of those lovely opportunities which will be rewarding for our girls and a gift to those in the audience.

Our mothers and grandmothers are invited to enjoy this worship and learning experience as well and are encouraged to come for good food and good company! If you would like more information, call Hazel Peterson at 645-9276 or Phyllis Swanson at 645-4231.

Concert Dress Code Reminders

In the NYC, we strive for a unified sound AND look when we perform. To achieve this during our concerts, we ask the following:

All Girls: Wear solid black, low-heeled or flat dress shoes. (No sandals, open toes, boots, tennis shoes, thick soles, clogs, spiked heels, sling backs.)
Treble, Concert and Chorale Girls: Wear off-black sheer nylons. If your uniform includes a scarf, make sure the fringe is in good shape.
Poco and Jr. Singer Girls: Wear black opaque tights.
All Boys: Wear black dress socks and shoes (no sandals or slip-ons).
Hair: Should appear a natural color (no extreme-colored dye) and be simply done, always away from the face. Girls that wear barrettes or headbands should keep them hair-colored with no flowers, bows or extreme adornments that will stand out from hair.
Jewelry: If you have pierced ears, wear simple studs. No other jewelry is allowed with concert dress (this includes necklaces, bracelets, ankle bracelets, watches, friendship bracelets and rings).
Face: Natural lip color. No glitter or dark eye-make-up.

Adopt A Highway Program

The NYC is now proudly participating in the Adopt A Highway program. See our new sign on Highway 246, between reference marker 3-5, just past the high school. Keep an eye out for news of our spring clean-up day!

Return Music Bags on Monday

It’s time to collect music and bags! Before you return your bag, please remove any garbage or personal belongings.
Music and bags will be collected on the following dates:

Junior Singers, Treble and Concert Choir members: Monday, April 28th during our last regular rehearsal.
Chorale: Saturday, May 3 at our rehearsal in Boe.

Trinity Concert Details

The Treble and Concert Choirs will perform on Sun., Apr. 27th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault. We’ll be taking a bus to Trinity and carpooling home. Trinity is located at 530 4th St. N.W. in Faribault. Directions can be found on Trinity’s website.

Details are as follows:

12:45 p.m.–Meet and load bus in the Middle School parking lot. Wear your concert attire.
1:30–Arrive at Trinity for warm-ups and rehearsal
3:00–Performance

Following the performance–There will be a reception for singers and the audience.

Following the reception, singers will carpool with families back to Northfield. If you can’t attend the concert and need help finding a ride home for your singer, please contact the NYC office before 3 p.m. on Friday.

Singing Valentines for Sale

Looking for a really unique way to wish someone a happy Valentines Day? Look no further! Northfield Youth Choir members in Chorale and Concert Choir will again be “delivering” musical greetings over the phone on Feb. 14th, from approximately 5 to 9 p.m. The cost for NYC Singing Valentines is only $5 for local calls; long distance calls are $10 (anywhere in the U.S.). All profits go toward lowering the spring tour expenses for these two choirs. It’s a great surprise for your sweetheart, grandparents, teachers and long-lost friends & relatives!

Order one of two ways by Mon., Feb. 11:

From a Chorale/Concert Choir member: Payments of check (payable to NYC) or cash should be given to the singer at the time that you order.
By mail: Send us a note, and be sure to include the sender’s name, as well as the recipient’s name and phone number. You may also include a special message and the best time to reach the recipient. Send instructions and payment to NYC, PO Box 460, with “valentine” on your check memo.

Con Brio to Cantabile Festival

Con Brio will be participating in a day-long choir festival at St. Cloud State University (SCSU) on Sat., Feb. 23, hosted by Cantabile Girls Choir, which is sponsored by the SCSU Music Department Preparatory Program. The festival runs from 9:30 am to 5 pm. Rehearsals will take place at the SCSU Performing Arts Center and Sigrid Johnson, director of the St. Olaf Manitou Singers, will be the guest clinician. A concert, which is open to the public, will be held at 4 p.m. at Christ Church Newman Center in St. Cloud. Stay tuned for details, but plan on a full day, with the bus leaving early in the morning and returning late that evening.

Snow Days Retreat is Coming!

Treble Choir, Concert Choir and Chorale: Snow Days are right around the corner! We’ll be at Camp Omega near Waterville again this year, from after school Fri., Jan. 18 to Sun. afternoon, Jan. 20th. In addition to providing important rehearsal time for learning spring repertoire, this annual retreat is full of wintry fun! Stay tuned for more details, including a detailed schedule and packing list.
