Northfield Youth Choirs

Our music bags are due to arrive in time for Monday’s rehearsal. Look for them to come with your singers (grades 3 and older) this week, and please add two or more sharpened pencils.

Can your family host a pair of singers (or more!) when 28-voice American Boychoir comes to Northfield this fall? According to Boychoir touring guidelines, host families will need to host a minimum of two boys and two adults need to be present in the host households. While each boy is required to have his own bed, cots and couches are fine.


Host Family Itinerary

• Thurs., Oct. 30: Pick up singers after the group’s 7 pm concert in St. Olaf’s Boe Chapel.
• Friday, Oct. 31: Breakfast in host homes. Deliver singers to St. Olaf between 7:30 and 8:30 am. Pick up singers at 7:30 pm. The boys will have eaten.
• Sat., Nov. 1: Breakfast in host homes. Deliver singers to St. Olaf at 10 am.

All singers grades 3 and older will have a fall retreat to get a jump-start on our fall repertoire, get to know each other better, and have some fun. Here are the details…

• Jr. Singers: Sept. 20, 9 am - 2 pm, Christiansen Hall of Music @ St. Olaf College
• Treble Choir: Sept. 27, 9 am - 3 pm, Nerstrand United Methodist Church, 12 Maple Street, Nerstrand
• Concert Choir: Oct. 24 & 25, 5 pm Fri. - 2 pm Sat., St. John’s UCC, 19086 Jacobs Avenue, Nerstrand
• Chorale: Sept. 21, 1 - 7 pm, Christiansen Hall of Music @ St. Olaf College. Note that group pictures will be taken in NYC t-shirts and jeans!

At our Sat. morning rehearsal (12/8), all choirs (except Poco a Poco) will turn in fall music and folders. When you get to Skinner Chapel, look for a box labeled with the name of your choir. Please keep your black bags and bring them to the first rehearsal in January. Remember that singers are responsible for lost or damaged music. Thank you for your help in caring for this valuable choir resource!

Poco a Poco and Junior Singers: Your Winter Sing will be held on Tues., Nov. 27th in the chapel of the Northfield Care Center (900 Cannon Valley Drive). This is an opportunity for us to perform our winter concert repertoire and to spread some holiday cheer!

• Singers: Arrive at 6:15 p.m. in your concert attire. We’ll rehearse until 7 p.m. and then perform for the NCC residents and NYC families. Following our performance, we’ll do some caroling in the hallways. We’ll finish the evening in the chapel with cookies and cocoa. All the fun is over by 7:45.
• Parents:Can you bring a dozen cookies to share? Can you lead a group of carolers through the halls for 15 minutes? If so, please email to this email with “winter sing” in the subject line. Thanks in advance for your help.
